( though marc spector is relatively newly arrived, it is not his first, nor his second, or even his third experience with something like this. he's dressed in his clothes — or vestments, as he likes to call them: an all-white three-piece suit decorated with small crescent moon details and a larger crescent moon embroidered on the forehead of the mask he's wearing.
when he speaks though, the voice is fairly ordinary — adult male, chicago-accented with hints of new york here and there. )
Good evening. Some of us have met, but for those of us who haven't, my name is Mr. Knight. ( is it? no, of course not, but it's the only name he's sought to provide anywhere. ) I'm the high priest of Khonshu — one of the gods of the moon. Formerly, I ran a mission out of Manhattan. ( beat. ) For the protection of those who travel at night. ( is he going to elaborate on what that means? no. not really. ) A status of being that includes all present here.
( punctuated by a breath of a pause and a slight, fleeting glance to one side. )
While I lack all the resources I had previously, a preist does not need much. If anyone finds themselves in need, from the mundane through to the weird — quests, protection, investigations—. ( marc unfurls a gloved hand and lifts a shoulder in a minute shrug. ) Please, don't hesitate to get in touch.
This isn't my first rodeo, as they say.
( ooc— marc will absolutely be looking at running a version of his midnight mission out of stygia. for the time being, he'll simply want to raise his profile a touch, make sure he's known. he operates predominately at night but keeps irregular sleeping patterns so can and will be contactable during the day. )

[ A pause, and then he adds: ]
Do you think this is a different dimension, instead of the afterlife, then?

(apparently, anyway.
a beat. but now that it's been mentionedβ ) I was military. In another life. ( punctuated by a wry quirk of his lips that isn't visible but for a slight shift in the material of his mask. )
Yes.

But, I suppose if you're military, you at least know how to hold your own in a place like this, don't you? Against unknowable beings, monsters, and the like?
What makes you think it's a different dimension, instead?

( more to the point, marc has always been, in some capacity, a man of faith. whilst his relationship with God β his father's god more than his own β has always been difficult, there had never been any question about god(s).
it just so happened that one was more indifferent than the other. )
I don't owe my experience with fighting monsters to the military, Silco. Soldiers fight soldiers. They might not all be good men, ( he'd know, he'd been one of the not-good ones, ), but you generally have to look elsewhere to find the monsters.
βPast experiences. Khonshu. This isn't where his tools go to die.

[ He has. Opinions. ]
You're fortunate to have certainty that this is not your afterlife, regardless. We have a multitude on runeterra, that it's difficult to pick any single one that this place reflects.
Who knows? They could all have been wrong, and this is the truth.
cw: descriptions of violence
( pause. a moment of consideration, then— ) Even worked with one or two.
( at home, on earth, though he's making steps to move away from being the moon knight that people make assumptions about — the one that carves crescent moons into the foreheads of villains, thinks not a second thought about using murder as a tool, he doesn't deny that his reputation has its bonuses. makes things easier.
he doesn't have that benefit here. )
The religions of my world present many different afterlifes. This isn't one of them, ( he thinks, though he's no expert. ) And speaking of monsters, Silco, this is not the afterlife I would be destined to end up in.
( marc: 100% sure he's going to hell, unless khonshu has other plans for whatever happens to him after death. )
cw: more of the same
[ Speaking of Monsters, right? He'd thought the same thing, when he woke up here. He's much more confident in his death, but it's hard to deny being shot multiple times by a heavy machine gun. ]
Many whom I've spoken to have said they experienced a situation where they likely would have died right before they arrived. Are you one of the outliers? There are...some inconsistencies from some stories. It's possible that your theory holds more weight than simply being the afterlife.
Unless, of course, we've been plucked away from our own personal hells to suffer here, instead. It isn't exactly paradise.
no subject
( hmm. )
It's possible. ( though if he's honest, his nightly excursions have the possibility of resulting in is death any and every night. more recently thanks to his new enemies, but otherwise his lifestyle has never been one that lends itself to longevity.
which, alongside various personal and moral failings, had been one of the reasons both marlene and frenchie had left him. ) My experience before arriving here doesn't align with my past experiences of dying. ( or near-death, or however one wanted to describe it. his first death — in sudan, at the foot of khonshu's statue — had been the most terrifying. the most painful. dehydration mixed with blood loss did not manage to hit anywhere near his top 10 experiences.
though drowning hadn't been a barrel of laughs either. )
I can think of worse punishments.
no subject
So can I. This place is soft by comparison to where I'm from.
But perhaps they are lacking in creativity. Or, alternatively, this "Ascension" they talk about is simply returning home. The...metaphysical was never my area of expertise. Call me if we need logistics, not religion.
no subject
( he'll come back to this 'ascension' malarkey later: in spite of everything, metaphysics has never really been marc's thing either.
bu also — and more pertinently — he needs to know who to hit up if he Needs anything. )

[ Especially when you're making and shipping your own drugs. ]
But I got my start when I was a boy in smuggling. Used to find any number of needed items, from the mundane to the rare.

Or I'm sorry, "being transported to another dimension".
So yes, they are true here.

I want equipment, Silco.
no subject
Or are you fine with stock? If you want unbreakable equipment, it requires souls.
no subject
( although depending on the specifics, souls may not be an issue either — something khonshu, something eater of hearts, something nothing fucking new, but marc's trying not to, you know, kill people these days. )
I'm a simple man, and there's never been a good priest that asks for much in the way of money or material goods.
no subject
A priest, are you?
Well come my way, if you need something, and I'm certain I can deliver. I've been here long enough now that I have a bit of a network. To all of your advantage, of course.
[ And not to line his pockets... ]

( is this going to work out well? who knows, not marc.
getting along with people, forming alliances, making good decisions— he's never done especially well with any of it, and he knows he's in a vulnerable position. he knows that this — all of it — could backfire spectacularly as he's still trying to work out who's good ('good') and who's not. who's worth knowing and who's worth watching.
he knows, too, that jake would be better here — this conversation, specifically — but jake (and steven) aren't avenues he's willing to even contemplate right now, so it's
marc. ) All our advantage, huh? ( interesting remark. something to keep in mind for later, maybe. ) Send you a message, or is there somewhere to find you?
no subject
[ And he's mostly stuck around there 99% of his time since arriving. It's hard to avoid the humm and bustle of a lively area, and Silco's the sort of person who does best in a place like that. That, and he's been paying off plenty of people for information and leads.
Just crime boss things. ]

See you around, Silco.

Don't be a stranger, Mr. Knight.
