( though marc spector is relatively newly arrived, it is not his first, nor his second, or even his third experience with something like this. he's dressed in his clothes — or vestments, as he likes to call them: an all-white three-piece suit decorated with small crescent moon details and a larger crescent moon embroidered on the forehead of the mask he's wearing.

Good evening. Some of us have met, but for those of us who haven't, my name is Mr. Knight. ( is it? no, of course not, but it's the only name he's sought to provide anywhere. ) I'm the high priest of Khonshu — one of the gods of the moon. Formerly, I ran a mission out of Manhattan. ( beat. ) For the protection of those who travel at night. ( is he going to elaborate on what that means? no. not really. ) A status of being that includes all present here.

( punctuated by a breath of a pause and a slight, fleeting glance to one side. )

While I lack all the resources I had previously, a preist does not need much. If anyone finds themselves in need, from the mundane through to the weird — quests, protection, investigations—. ( marc unfurls a gloved hand and lifts a shoulder in a minute shrug. ) Please, don't hesitate to get in touch.

This isn't my first rodeo, as they say.

( ooc— marc will absolutely be looking at running a version of his midnight mission out of stygia. for the time being, he'll simply want to raise his profile a touch, make sure he's known. he operates predominately at night but keeps irregular sleeping patterns so can and will be contactable during the day. )

I've died and been reborn before. My adjustment period is likely shorter than that of the majority. ( half the truth, half a simplification: given his history, he's actually not entirely convinced this is it for him.

but right. that. ) —I like to keep busy, and I have a duty.

[ allegedly, since some people aren't convinced this is death. she still has not decided where she sits on that theory. ]

But a duty? What kind?

Three times before this. ( and truthfully, he doesn't think he can die — or, more accurately, doesn't think khonshu will allow him to die until he's done with marc. )

My religious duty. ( a pause. he thought he'd explained it adequately enough, but apparently not— ) I protect the travellers of the night from being harmed. ( not just at night and not as black-and-white as 'protect from harm' sounds, but it's the general gist. ) It doesn't end simply because I'm no longer home.

Oh. And the experience was quite different from this one?

[ she assumes that he might have mentioned that he was here before it was that the case.

at the further explanation of his religious duty, though, she simply nods. ]

That makes sense. This place can be rather dangerous.

I didn't leave Earth, for one. ( "yes." )

—Most places are dangerous if you know where to look.

Earth is a popular place here. There's a few of you from there.

[ although no one else she has spoken to has mentioned things like high priests of khonshu or anything, so. it must be a big place. ]

But that's true. Not everyone is equipped to face the dangers.

A place called Terra. As far as I'm aware, only my co-worker and I are from there.

[ it would usually be fairly noticeable if someone was. most people here are missing certain... animal characteristics. ]

Interesting. ( less-so that she's from a different world, that's quite mundane, but more that she has a co-worker with her. ) Were you together when you died?

I'm not worried about offers. ( he'll do his thing regardless. )

No. [ a pause, and then she adds, ] As far as we remember.

[ it wouldn't be too unusual to die together, it's the lack of memory of it that's concerning. ]

You'd just work on your own?

An imperfect tool. ( at least, in his experience. ) Especially where trauma is concerned.

Yes. ( he has done in the past, meaning to do so again would hardly be the most unusual of circumstances. sure, he wouldn't have the tech he'd grown accustomed to, but tech was tech: nice, but ultimately worthless. ) Not everyone that requires help knows to ask for it.

Mm. But we'll see if we end up remembering anything... if there even is anything to remember.

[ it's still very hard to say, at this point. but she also knows enough amnesiacs to understand that memory can be a very fickle thing. ]

I see... would you be doing things like patrols, Mr. Knight?

Sometimes the mind will bury experiences it doesn't wish to recall. ( that is to say: he agrees with her assertion that there may be nothing to remember — or at least, nothing they're capable of remembering, at least for the time being. )

Yes. ( SOMEONE'S GOT IT. ) Back home, my community would come to me with issues or concerns that were pressing or important for them, and I would deal with them — creatures of the night terrorising their streets, unexplainable occurrences, unsavoury characters creating problems.

If there was nothing immediate on my agenda, I would ( hmm ) make myself readily available, should something crop up.

I intend on doing the same here.

[ oh, that's all very interesting. and helpful. one of the reasons why rosa even sought to find others to live with was because she didn't know how really safe the areas here are; even in the calmest of waters there's always something below the surface. ]

I see. If others asked to join you with this duty, would you say no?

[ she isn't offering to help, since rosa doesn't think she would be too suited for this specific type of thing, but she's sure others might. ]

I'm not very good at teamwork.

( neither a yes or a no. frenchie had always been his go-to for company, but he'd done a fantastic job of burning that relationship to the ground. soldier and reese are — well, they're good, but they're also just kids. tigra's the only person he has that he can say he really works with in the sense that he thinks rosa means. )

But beyond that, I'm not going to stipulate what others can or can't do.

Hm, that makes sense. I guess as long as you're not getting in each other's way, it'll work out.

[ in general, rosa understands that sometimes you work together without really... working together. or without really liking each other. at the end of the day, whether your personalities mesh well or not doesn't really matter. ]

Maybe.

( marc's experience is that it very much depends on them — whoever any 'others' might be — and, more broadly speaking, marc himself, his actions and how they sit relative to the morality and judgement of other ...protectors. vigilantes. )

I guess we'll find out.

I wouldn't say that I am as useful as a doctor, but I do know some things. I have field work experience from my job.
