( though marc spector is relatively newly arrived, it is not his first, nor his second, or even his third experience with something like this. he's dressed in his clothes — or vestments, as he likes to call them: an all-white three-piece suit decorated with small crescent moon details and a larger crescent moon embroidered on the forehead of the mask he's wearing.

Good evening. Some of us have met, but for those of us who haven't, my name is Mr. Knight. ( is it? no, of course not, but it's the only name he's sought to provide anywhere. ) I'm the high priest of Khonshu — one of the gods of the moon. Formerly, I ran a mission out of Manhattan. ( beat. ) For the protection of those who travel at night. ( is he going to elaborate on what that means? no. not really. ) A status of being that includes all present here.

( punctuated by a breath of a pause and a slight, fleeting glance to one side. )

While I lack all the resources I had previously, a preist does not need much. If anyone finds themselves in need, from the mundane through to the weird — quests, protection, investigations—. ( marc unfurls a gloved hand and lifts a shoulder in a minute shrug. ) Please, don't hesitate to get in touch.

This isn't my first rodeo, as they say.

( ooc— marc will absolutely be looking at running a version of his midnight mission out of stygia. for the time being, he'll simply want to raise his profile a touch, make sure he's known. he operates predominately at night but keeps irregular sleeping patterns so can and will be contactable during the day. )

there's a lengthy pause before marc responds, not because he doesn't want to respond — that may be some of it — but mostly because he's not really sure how to answer. it — proving himself — isn't something he's had to worry about in a long time: moon knight's reputation has always preceded him, and his only concern has been trying to prove that he's not always completely, totally unhinged. )

I've been to other realms, other dimensions.

I've died before. It didn't stick.

I was reborn under the light of the moon as Khonshu's Fist of Vengeance. I have been doing this a long time. What kind of specifics were you after? The position isn't one that comes with a printed and signed certification.

( marc is only loosely familiar with other gods and deities: his interest in ancient egypt is a result of his position, formed by circumstance rather than the other way round. thanks to the mask, it's difficult to tell if marc's expression flickers or alters at all, if there's any recognition, but he does lean closer towards the camera and rests his chin against his hands. )

Not such as this. ( breath of a pause. ) But I have died before. Been reborn. Death and I aren't friends like that. ( he is very good at creating it, though. )

( ultimately, that's the crux of it: he could work during the day — and does, when needed — but he mostly sleeps during the day, so

it can be challenging, ya feel? )

Sometimes the mind will bury experiences it doesn't wish to recall. ( that is to say: he agrees with her assertion that there may be nothing to remember — or at least, nothing they're capable of remembering, at least for the time being. )

Yes. ( SOMEONE'S GOT IT. ) Back home, my community would come to me with issues or concerns that were pressing or important for them, and I would deal with them — creatures of the night terrorising their streets, unexplainable occurrences, unsavoury characters creating problems.

If there was nothing immediate on my agenda, I would ( hmm ) make myself readily available, should something crop up.

I intend on doing the same here.

[ Lottie doesn't try, so she fails, to hide the little sound of surprise that slips past her lips. He does? Really? ]

[ Yes.... She is thinking about all the grocery trips she could make at night without worrying her roomie..... ]

( there's an audible inhale of breath, a pause, then an exhale — definitely a sigh. )

You can drop the hypotheticals.

But no. I wouldn't. It's my duty to keep those who travel at night safe. To protect them.

You'll find that it's nighttime pretty much every hour of the day here.

[ she hopes you'll be able to sleep, man. ]

I'll have to utilise a more old-fashioned method of calculating time of day.

I don't exactly know what Khonshu is, so forgive me for being a bit slow on the uptake. Is it some sort of military position? The authorities?

[ A pause, and then he adds: ]

Do you think this is a different dimension, instead of the afterlife, then?

[oomfies]

[ She freezes at that, absolutely perturbed that he knows her name and how weird it is for him to say it.. But then she remembers it's her username and she sighs in relief.

(And, distantly, she realizes just how out of touch she is with her Influencer Roots--) ]

I don't know.

[ She says it instinctually, slamming a hand to her face the second it comes out. ]

I don't plan on it.. I don't do dangerous things. I was thinking it'd be easier to have a buddy for errands or jogging..

Khonshu is the god of the moon. He is the protector, traveler. pathfinder and embracer. An authority, though not any you're thinking of.

(apparently, anyway.

I don't believe in gods, so I suppose it's unsurprising that I've never heard of them.

But, I suppose if you're military, you at least know how to hold your own in a place like this, don't you? Against unknowable beings, monsters, and the like?

( marc leans forward into the camera. his expression — thanks to the mask — is unreadable, though the material does pull and shift a little as he does so. a low, level hmm, then— )

You'd pull me from those that do require my protection to go jogging?

[ How dare his mask be so pristine and well made but be so clearly, clearly, judging her!! She is equal parts irritated and impressed.

..Maybe more irritated, because now she feels silly for even mentioning it in the first place. Aren't masked vigilantes in nice suits supposed to be friendly?? He's dorky, anyway (he isn't, she's just miffed)!

( a perfunctory heh, and— ) It's hard to deny their existence when one brings you back from death.

( more to the point, marc has always been, in some capacity, a man of faith. whilst his relationship with God — his father's god more than his own — has always been difficult, there had never been any question about god(s).

it just so happened that one was more indifferent than the other. )

I don't owe my experience with fighting monsters to the military, Silco. Soldiers fight soldiers. They might not all be good men, ( he'd know, he'd been one of the not-good ones, ), but you generally have to look elsewhere to find the monsters.

( sorry, lottie, marc isn't spider-man. he's not very good with people and he definitely missed (or refused to attend, lbr) the class on 'how to win friends'.

[ oh, that's all very interesting. and helpful. one of the reasons why rosa even sought to find others to live with was because she didn't know how really safe the areas here are; even in the calmest of waters there's always something below the surface. ]

I see. If others asked to join you with this duty, would you say no?
