It is not the fault of the stricken that they have been cursed. Suffering such a curse serves no point other than misery. If the medicine proves ineffectual despite promises otherwise, that needs to be addressed. To offer hope to people and lie is shameful.
One does not need direct experience with life and death to understand cruelty or what is unjust and unfair. Even if I have never seen anyone lie about medicine, life, death, or such, I know people lie. And in this, it would be cruel.
