npc || amun [ @ hierarchy ]
Allow me to make this clear. For those of you who wonder still: I am the Hierarchy. You do not come to us; we summon, invite, and hire. Order is of the utmost importance if you wish to survive, and time is of the essence. Do not waste mine.
( behind him, movement. if you squint, you may notice strands of greying hair near the door, though the person it belongs to remains off-screen. )
Your personal troubles are your own. If you expected us to hold your hand, do think again; there are far greater affairs to attend to, so do yourselves a favor, and look for soulmates. We've prepared an application for you, easily accessible from your device's home page. Should you need additional information, perhaps it's time for you to practice self-reliance.
I will not be answering questions.
( and the feed cuts, abruptly, without greetings or a name. )
► Amun will not be responding, though you're absolutely welcome to react, comment and discuss amongst yourselves on this post! Other NPCs might show up!
► This is, more or less, Tinder for Soulmates o/ You'll find the permanent post (aka phone application) right HERE! If you're interested, simply fill out the form and comment on the post, and bam. Browse, swipe left or swipe right, and have fun! This is not mandatory.
► Forms and replies should be posted ICly (yes, even if it's located in the OOC comm -- you may choose one (1) thread for october's AC) .
► Another character may post in your character's stead. Additionally, feel free to have their Shadow influence their blurb!
► The application offers all the information your character needs to know! To recap: All that's required for another Restless to become your Soulmate is for them to enter your home, touch your Tethers upon invitation, and from then on, a piece of their soul will merge with yours, fortifying your Self. As a literal extension of your being, they'll easily gain access to your thoughts if you let them (or if you're careless), they'll experience your pains, fears, and joys on weaker levels, and their voice, touch and overall vicinity can become great soothing weapons against your Shadow. However. If two characters already share a powerful bond and one incidentally touches the other's Tethers, it's an accidental done deal. You may thank Naruto's player for this.
► You may have multiple Soulmates!
► If you have questions regarding the app, redirect them here!

Right.
Soulmates don't exist, though.

You can't say that definitively! We couldn't be sure there was an afterlife until we got here, after all.

A world that's fantastical enough to allow for something like soulmates is the kind of world that should keep itself to fiction. This one included, if it really does allow for them.

Besides, if we're forced to look this awful shit as our new reality, shouldn't there be some glimmer of hope? The bonds between people are what keep them alive in times of strife. It's not unrealistic to hope that might mean something.
At least, something more than a glorified classified ad would.

Oh, I don't think it's all so bad here. Certainly not bad enough to start preaching about hope, or glimmers of it in the darkness. This? Is not so bad to try to escape from it.
It's just the "afterlife", or some approximation of it. I expected more...fire. Maybe torture.

Somehow I don't think settling for not so bad is a great way to spend eternity.
[Although this next bit stays her hand for a while. The sentiment digs a little too deep in her gut. All things considered?]
Admittedly I might have expected the same. Not that I was much for religion, but divine punishment seemed more likely than divine reward.

[ Zaunites could come up with cruel ideas of an afterlife. You land is hard, your people cruel, and just see what they think will happen when they die. ]
Regardless, unless we find a way out... isn't it better to find some measure of... "acceptance". Otherwise we'll spend an eternity complaining about the place we ended up when we died.

But I also think that complacency just leads to self-pity and misery. You can't fault people for trying to improve their situation.

I speak more of accepting the what "is", instead of being driven to flights of fancy. We will be able to affect what we are able to affect, and if our sights are skewed too high, we will either find the power to do so, or we won't. We'll either die trying to do...whatever our goals end up being, or we'll achieve them.
I just simply don't get mired in anything beyond the what "is", for the moment. Complaining about it will not do us good, but driving forward achieves results.

There's a significant delay in response this time. A lot of it is spent biting her thumb and recalculating her interpretation of it. Of course it's not a barb at her personally — what would this total stranger know of her, or her dreams?

Good. I thought I was talking to a total coward, but at least you're a pragmatist.
I suppose more investigation is needed before we know what we can or can't affect. There's a lot of ground to cover and a lot of ill-defined threats around. Not to mention the audacity of making the undead work for money, which is just adding insult to injury. Our work is cut out for us.

I wouldn't go making assumptions too early, lest you insult someone who takes things personally. You never know what kinds of people you'll run into -- or at least we won't, until we start actually spending time talking to the other... what are we called? Restless? That have been here longer.

Right now, it sounds a lot like a threat.
She frets for a moment. What does she do? Engage with it? Run screaming? Should she look this person up and take cover if she sees them coming? Ignoring it would piss them off, probably. So, maybe...]
All right. I'll talk to people.
[Keep it short and cut it off.
She tosses her phone aside for now, feeling queasy. If there's one thing she's good at, it's putting her foot in her stupid mouth.]
