Where I'm from, having principles gets you killed. Even the pinnacles of the community have been known to lie, betray, and murder, to get where they are, or to get what they want or need.

Talk to the topsiders if you want to hear about principles. They're the ones who can indulge in such things, but for us down in the undercity? It's a one-way trip to, well... here.

I guess I'm not talking about principles, then. Just being strong enough to attach your name to your deeds. Surely your undercity dwellers appreciated that, too.

Something I can appreciate, yes.

However, I've had to keep my head down as well. Part of being capable and able to survive is knowing when to attach your name to something, and part is knowing when to strike from the dark when nobody knows who's doing so.

Strength is only one part of what makes someone capable. Often, it's simply the ability to seize...the right opportunities.
