I agree. However, many leaders are wont to hold their cards close to their chest like any other man with something to lose. Especially when a band of newbies arrive who could disrupt the status quo. And maybe that's paranoia talking, but no one wants to walk around with their weak spots in plain view, regardless of how well they think they can defend it.
